Songwriters@Scup #45, w/And Medlin, Charlie McCurry, & Bobbie needham
Songwriters@Scup is a monthly "songwriters in the round" event, produced by Doug Baker at Scuppernong Books, with in-kind contributions from The 'Boro Sessions.
Ang Medlin is a Greensboro, NC-based singer-songwriter whose music sits at the soulful intersection of Americana and traditional storytelling. Known for her powerful, emotive vocals and "brilliant lyrics" (ReverbNation), Ang crafts songs that resonate with authenticity and raw emotional depth. Blending traditional Americana sounds with a modern, introspective edge, Ang Medlin continues to capture the hearts of listeners who value music that is as honest as it is melodic.
Charlie McCurry began playing guitar nearly sixty years ago, teaching himself to play. He began writing songs in 1968. In the Summer of 2008, Charlie’s song, “It's Only Rain", won The National Guitar Workshop's Songwriting Contest during its inaugural Songwriting Summit in Nashville, TN. The Summit was held at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. Participants performed at “The Bluebird Cafe.” In the Fall of 2014, Charlie produced two albums in Nashville; “It’s Only Rain” and “Little Child.” In 2017, he added a third, entitled “The Divorce Album.”
Initially drawn to country, honkytonk, and bluegrass, Bobbie Needham found her musical home in blues, swing and the all-encompassing category, Americana. That simply means Bobbie writes and sings what she pleases. Inspiration comes from odd words found in books, comments overheard by “discrete” eavesdropping and ideas wafting through the clouds waiting to be claimed. Bobbie’s first album, “What Mama Should’ve Told You”, was released in the spring of 2020.
