Storybook Tales
A Season of Magic & Dreams continues as Greensboro Ballet presents
Storybook Tales
featuring Act II of "Giselle" and other ballets
Step beyond the page and into a world where timeless tales are brought to life through the language of dance. In Storybook Tales, Greensboro Ballet invites you to experience a spellbinding collection of ballets—each a chapter from the imagination, memory, and creativity of magical storytellers.
At the heart of this season’s production is Act II of Giselle, a hauntingly beautiful jewel of the Romantic ballet era. Set in a moonlit forest where the ethereal Wilis—spirits of betrayed maidens—haunt the night, Giselle’s spirit returns not in vengeance, but in love. Floating through mist and moonlight, Giselle is a story of heartbreak and hope—reminding us that the most enduring magic is love that forgives.
Giselle will be performed by special guest artist, Megan LeCrone, former New York City Ballet soloist and Greensboro Ballet alumna.
Complementing this masterpiece will be a curated selection of additional story ballets—both classical and contemporary—including the musical story, Peter & the Wolf, Bournonville Divertissements by guest choreographer, Mary LeGere, and Patter, a new work by faculty member, Liz Stiller Anderson.
Peter and the Wolf is a classic musical story by Sergei Prokofiev that blends storytelling with music to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra. The story follows Peter, a brave and curious young boy who, despite warnings from his grandfather, confidently explores the outdoors with his animal friends—a cheerful bird, a gentle duck, and a sneaky cat. When a wolf comes out of the forest and causes trouble, Peter uses his courage, clever thinking, and teamwork to capture the wolf. Each character is represented by a different musical instrument, helping the audience recognize sounds and emotions through music and dance.
With Storybook Tales, Greensboro Ballet continues its tradition of elegance, awe, and timeless storytelling—perfect for ballet lovers and dreamers of all ages.
