Black Play Readers (BPR) announces its third biannual public reading: Chicken & Biscuits by Douglas Lyons. This show follows the Jenkins family as they come together for the funeral of their father, Bernard Jenkins, but can they get through this occasion without tearing each other to pieces? Will they be able to hold in family secrets, or will they spill the tea? Come find out in this sentimental comedic drama that touches on the Black family dynamic. Chicken & Biscuits allows actors to dive into themes such as a family dealing with faith, grief, reconciliation, and social issues.

Black Play Readers is also doing something very special with this public reading, a member will direct the show! Jaden Rogers, a senior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, will be directing Chicken & Biscuits as a part of his capstone collegiate journey. Jaden has been a member of BPR since it was founded, has been an actor in the first two biannual public readings, playing Cornbread in Katori Hall’s Hurt Village and Scotch in Is God Is by Aleshea Harris, and now he will break out to the role of director for his third show with BPR.

For two weekends, Black Play Readers will showcase the talent of Greensboro students in Chicken & Biscuits by Douglas Lyons. The first weekend will showcase at North Carolina A&T Black Box Theatre, and the second weekend will be held at the University of NC at Greensboro Sprinkle Theatre. All performances are free and open to the public. Please click the link to obtain your free tickets: https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/blackplayreaders/cbpr
