O.Henry Free Live Jazz - Dorian Devins

Thu, Oct 31, 2024

6:00-9:00 pm in the O. Henry lobby. Over the years (since January 2015!), O.Henry has become quite a hotbed for live jazz. Enjoy vintage craft cocktails and delightful seasonal Mediterranean tapas while enjoying The O.Henry Trio and an impressive list of rotating vocalists who perform varied styles of jazz in the O.Henry Social Lobby.

Formerly based in New York City jazz vocalist and lyricist Dorian Devins now resides in Cary, N.C. She performs in jazz clubs, wine bars and restaurants as well as in festivals across the US and overseas.

In addition to her large and varied repertoire of vocal standards, bossa nova, Latin, and blues, Dorian has written lyrics for over 3 dozen jazz standards, and has cowriting credit with Wayne Shorter, Lou Rainone and others.

Her voice has been described as “a cool, unadorned mezzo-soprano that harks back to golden age songbirds from June Christy to Peggy Lee” and her performance “is tart, precise, and swinging” with “phrasing presently (that) has no peer.”

Her first CD, The Procrastinator, was voted a “Best Recording of 2013” on All About Jazz., and her two 2017 recordings, Imaginary Release and City Stories, received enthusiastic reviews.
