O.Henry Free Live Jazz - Clinton Horton

Thu, Oct 17, 2024

6:00-9:00 pm in the O. Henry lobby. Over the years (since January 2015!), O.Henry has become quite a hotbed for live jazz. Enjoy vintage craft cocktails and delightful seasonal Mediterranean tapas while enjoying The O.Henry Trio and an impressive list of rotating vocalists who perform varied styles of jazz in the O.Henry Social Lobby.

Clint Horton unknowingly launched his music career at the age of 5 when his mother convinced him to sing a solo at his church by promising him a candy bar. He later joined the church choir and, to this day, still enjoys singing in church choirs.

While in high school Clint and some of his friends formed a DooWop group which became well known for its tight harmonies. That love for DooWop followed him to college where he joined a group, “The Capels”, which won several local competitions. He and another member of that group later formed a R&B band called “The Spices featuring Salt n Pepper” which performed thru out North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.

While in college Clint became the first vocalist for the Elon University jazz band, “The Emanons”, which toured throughout The USA, Puerto Rico, and Europe. Their stops included Disney World, The New York Jazz Festival, as well as The Grand Ball for The Duke and Dutchess of Luxembourg.

During his singing career Clint has performed with several local and regional acts including The Monza’s, Clear Smoke, Sleeping Bootie, and The Lucius Wilson Band. He has shared the stage with numerous national acts including The Four Tops, Jerry Butler, The Classics Four, Joe Simon, Rufus and Carla Thomas, Percy Sledge, The Coasters, and Jackie Wilson.

In 2006 Clint joined The Magnificents Band as its lead vocalist. The Magnificents recently celebrated it’s fiftieth anniversary. The band continues to provide the finest in classic soul, RnB, and beach music to a wide array of fans.
