“Art isn’t everything. It’s just about everything.” - Gertrude Stein
Greenhill Art Gallery’s Art Taste Salons are inspired by Gertrude Stein’s Paris salons, where guests gather for conversation, enlightenment, inspiration, education, enrichment, and cuisine. Even two of our own, Etta and Claribel Cone, were Stein’s guests for years. The Cone Sisters became avid art collectors and eventually filled an entire wing in the Baltimore Museum of Art with works by artists such as Manet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, and more.
“The subject matter of art is life, life as it actually is; but the function of art is to make life better.”
- Gertrude Stein
