Cut, Carve, & Print: Create Your Own Stamp!
Discover the art of hand-carved printing in this fun and highly creative one-day workshop. Using simple Pink Pearl or Artgum erasers as your printing blocks, you’ll learn how to design, carve, and print your own custom rubber stamps.
We’ll explore the fundamentals of relief printing, including how to create a successful stamp design, transfer or draw an image onto your carving surface, safely use carving tools, and understand the relationship between positive and negative space. You’ll experiment with repetition, pattern, layering, and color to create unique prints from your handmade stamps.
One of the joys of hand-carved stamps is their versatility. Your designs can be used to create artwork, handmade cards, stationery, wrapping paper, collage elements, journals, fabric designs, and more. You’ll also discover how even simple marks and shapes can become complex compositions when repeated and layered.
No previous printmaking experience is required. This workshop is designed for beginners and experienced artists alike, with plenty of time to experiment and develop your own visual language.
By the end of the day, you’ll have created a handmade stamp and time allowed, a series of original prints — and, most importantly, the skills to keep carving and printing long after the workshop ends.
Start with an eraser. End with a little printing press of your own.
