Songwriters@Scup: Colin Cutler, Katie Blvd, and Michael Paris
Coming to you a week later this month, we’ve got an interesting group of folks bringing you their songs and stories.
Colin Cutler is a Greensboro-based singer-songwriter, folk musician, poet, and storyteller toting a banjo and guitar. Whether solo or with his band, Hot Pepper Jam, he is a wide-ranging performer whose musical roots draw from the breadth of American folk music — from Appalachian old-time music to blues to gospel to country to rock ’n’ roll — to form what No Depression has described as “one magnificent tapestry of roots music.”
Katie Blvd, a multifaceted musical talent hailing from Raleigh, is a singer/songwriter, beatmaker, and DJ who defies genre and captivates audiences with her unique blend of sound and story.
Michael Paris has been a folk singer for a long time. He was influenced by folk singers of the 1960s and 1970s such as Peter, Paul and Mary. He has collaborated and performed with other local singer/songwriters such as John Gillespie, Leah Kaufman and Janet Buehler. Michael loves being a multi-instrumentalist and plays guitar, dobro, banjo, autoharp, upright and electric bass, drums, piano, Irish bouzouki, harmonica, mandolin, lap electric steel guitar, melodica and is working on the cello, accordion, pennywhistle, and Hawaiian lap guitar. The dream is to keep playing and writing music as long as earthly possible.
Songwriters@Scup is a monthly series of “songwriters in the round” events, by Doug Baker in cooperation with Scuppernong Books. Technical assistance generously provided by The ‘Boro Sessions.
