Día de Muertos
Casa Azul of Greensboro announces its 15th annual Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, featuring a weeklong ofrenda (altar)
exhibition from Sunday, Nov. 1, through Saturday, Nov. 14, at the African American Atelier Gallery in the Greensboro Cultural Center. The public opening reception will take place Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Rooted in a fusion of pre-Hispanic rituals and Catholic influences, Día de los Muertos is observed on All Saints Day and honors the lives and memories of departed loved ones. The tradition is brought to life through the creation of commemorative ofrendas and other artistic
expressions. This year’s exhibit will showcase original ofrendas created by local Latino artists, individual community members, and organizations. Each altar is a unique tribute that reflects the personal, spiritual, and communal aspects of the Día de los Muertos.
Opening Day – Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026
In addition to the exhibition opening, two separate performance showcases will take place at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Van Dyke Performance Space, also located within the Greensboro Cultural Center at 220 N. Davie Street. The evening will feature live performances
by:
● Dalia Razo
● Ballet Folklórico Corazón De México Company with Mariachi Juvenil Los Garcias
These performances highlight the diversity of traditions through music and dance.
