Experience a Personal Transgender Transformational Journey through Music, Dance, and Storytelling

Sat, Feb 22, 2025
Congregational United Church of Christ

Artistic Director, Stephen A. N. Emberley (they/them) and Music Director Lyn Koonce (she/her) have announced the premiere of “Becoming More,” a transgender transformation story of music, dance, and storytelling. The immersive theater experience, which involves the work of dozens of musicians and dancers, will premiere on February 22, 2025 at 3pm at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 400 West Radiance Drive, Greensboro, NC. Emberley said, “Survey statistics show that understanding accurate scientific facts and knowing a transgender person led people to be more open and affirming. “Becoming More” will allow people to understand a transgender, Two Spirit person’s journey in a way that may be easier to grasp than lectures or training. It’s education through empathy.” The project is particularly timely considering the threat of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation that is stoking depression and fear among LGBTQ+ youth, families, and individuals. A panel discussion will follow the performance. It is the Creative Team’s intention to use the medium of the performing arts to bring hope and create community, conversation, and healing.
