Always wanted to write your own music, but not sure where to begin? In this six-week course, we will explore where songs come from, and how to generate and develop song ideas. We’ll discuss the differences between different styles, forms and genres. This course is instructed by local songwriter and musician, Doug Baker. Class will meet weekly on Wednesday at 6 pm in the High Point Arts Council located at 121 S Centennial St in High Point, NC 27260. Class meets from Wednesday May 3rd - Wednesday June 7th.

We will learn how to generate lyrical ideas through journaling and observation, the power of simple musical structures, and when it’s okay to try something different. As we create our songs, we will perform them for our classmates, where respectful and constructive comments will be welcome. Ability playing a musical instrument is not required, but helpful. If you can get hold off a ukulele or guitar, the instructor Doug Baker can teach you three chords that will be all you need to get started.
