Description
**Bel Canto Company, North Carolina A&T State University Choir, Gate City Voices, and regional high school choirs join forces for an unforgettable concert, featuring the music of Adolphus Hailstork.** The Choral Arts Collective is thrilled to welcome the North Carolina A&T State University Choir, led by their talented conductor Professor Travis Alexander, together with Bel Canto Company, Gate City Voices, and regional high school choirs for “Shout for Joy.” The concert celebrates the joy and power of singing together and features two awe-inspiring works by the renowned composer Adolphus Hailstork, “Shout for Joy” and “I Will Lift Up My Eyes.” Maestros Young and Alexander will each conduct the combined forces assembled for this incredible concert experience. Also included on the program are works by Undine Smith Moore, Nathan Carter, Linda Twine, Calvin Hampton, and more. Join us as we unite in celebration of the transformative power of music, igniting joy, and fostering community. "Shout For Joy" promises an evening of resounding harmonies and soul-stirring music that will leave you inspired and uplifted, cherishing the memories of this harmonious experience for years to come. *About Bel Canto Company:* Bel Canto is an Italian phrase that literally means “beautiful singing,” but we are more than that. We are an ensemble of more than 40 outstanding musicians, led by Artistic Director and Conductor Welborn Young, who believe in the power of live choral performances to entertain, inspire, heal, build community and express that which words alone cannot. In our 40+ years as the Triad’s premier choral ensemble, the Bel Canto Company has engaged well over 200 of the region’s most talented singers, presented hundreds of concerts locally and throughout the Southeast, and performed thousands of pieces of music spanning the globe and the centuries. From our beginning in the 1982-1983 season until now, Bel Canto has been praised for our uniquely beautiful interpretation and sensitive tonal quality. Over the years Bel Canto Company has released 14 albums, most recently "Bel Canto Live! Joyful Noise" (2019) and "the breath of life" (2019) featuring the world premiere of Dan Forrest’s 4-movement work of the same name, commissioned in memory of former Bel Canto Board President Suzanne Goddard. The ensemble has performed for many prestigious music festivals and conferences throughout the Southeast including Washington Cathedral’s Summer Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and the American Choral Directors Association, Southern and NC Division Conferences, The American Guild of Organists Southeast Regional Convention and the National Endowment for the Arts “American Masterpieces: Choral Music” programs. The Company has performed with the American Boychoir, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, and the Carolina Chamber Symphony, and has been featured on National Public Radio on Chorus America’s “The First Art” and NPR’s “Performance Today”. *About the North Carolina A&T State University Choir:* The University Choir is the official ensemble of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC, and the premiere choral unit for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The University Choir produces at least four major campus concerts per year, and performs extensively in churches, schools, and concert halls throughout the United States annually through Fall and Spring Recruitment Tours. Renowned for its riveting performances and wide and versatile repertoire of classical masterworks, Negro Spirituals, Opera, Broadway, Jazz, and Gospel, the University Choir has performed twice at the White House in Washington, DC., and has been featured on Black Issues Forum and UNC TV through an annual broadcast of their Christmas Concert. *About Gate City Voices:* The mission of Gate City Voices is to create an inclusive performance outlet for community singers seeking musical excellence. Now in its third season, Gate City Voices is an auditioned, volunteer choir that performs alongside Bel Canto Company, presenting expansive choral works composed for large choirs. The chorus sings a wide variety of music - from works by well-known names of the choral repertory to those of underrepresented composers whose music is often absent from the concert hall - and settings that range from a cappella to lush chamber orchestrations.
